![]() The first half is all about the crew adjusting to life at home after a long absence. Which makes this overstuffed book even more perplexing. With all that in mind, there aren’t many dangling plot threads to pick up on. The final shot of Voyager and Earth is one of the show’s best. But Voyager? Voyager set out with a gaol. And Enterprise caps off eighteen seasons of Trek far better than it does its own narrative. Deep Space Nine mixes satisfying plot arcs with disappointing thematic conclusions. The Next Generation has a great finale, but one that ends with more ‘business as usual’ for the crew. The Original Series and Animated Series both end with just another episode. ![]() Few Star Treks end in a wholly satisfying way. Homecoming is the first of these, and takes place in the immediate aftermath of Voyager‘s final episode.Īs a brief aside, ‘Endgame’ is my favourite Trek finale. But Beyer was not the first to continue Janeway’s voyages after the events of ‘Endgame.’ There was an earlier, and arguably less successful relaunch, penned by Christie Golden. Talk to Star Trek fans about the novels of Voayger, and you’ll hear a lot of praise for Kirsten Beyer’s Full Circle relaunch. In the post-war Federation, nothing is as it seems. But the home they left is not the one the return to. After seven years in the Delta Quadrant, she has brought her ship and her crew home safely. Captain Janeway has achieved the impossible. ![]()

The Small Town Series by Iza Moreau is quite different. Kylie is funny and uses quirky Aussie slang, but by the third book you are pretty tired of the same old. It’s just that there is no history in them the characters do not evolve. ![]() This is not to say that the Kylie Kendall mysteries are not enjoyable: they are. Kylie solves cases for Australian clients while trying to find a way into her gorgeous colleague Ariana’s fashionable trousers-that’s pretty much all you need to know-and all you will remember. The Kylie Kendall mysteries by Claire McNab, are a case in point. Unfortunately for the genre, many series novels are just the same book written again and again with different minor characters who commit slightly different crimes. It’s not that hard to review an entire series of lesbian mysteries as long as you read them consecutively and within a fairly short time. ![]() ![]() This is her review (linked to with her permission). My good GR friend Hana has covered the historical side of reviewing the book, & I don't feel I can better her comments. ![]() Warning there may be spoilers for Regency Buck & Devil's Cub in this review,as GH uses characters from both in this book.
